Proyek PLTP Sarulla merupakan salah satu proyek yang masuk kedalam program percepatan pembangunan pembangkit listrik (fast track program/FTP) tahap 2, dimana 60% bahan bakar dalam FTP tahap 2 ini menggunakan energi baru terbarukan. Proyek yang menelan investasi sekitar 1,5 miliar USD ini masuk dalam geothermal terbesar di dalam single contract (the world’s largest single-contract geothermal power plant) sehingga akan mempercepat pencapaian sasaran elektrifikasi di Indonesia.
Listrik dari PLTP Sarulla yang dikerjakan Konsorsium Medco-Ormat-Itochu-Kyushu yang akan dibangun pada dua lokasi yaitu di Silangkitang sebesar 220 MW dan di Namora sebesar 110 MW ini, akan dibeli PLN dengan harga 6,79 cent US$/kWh selama 30 tahun dan akan dialirkan melalui transmisi 150 kV sepanjang 15 kilometer sirkuit (kms) ke Gardu Induk Sarulla milik PLN. Unit Pertama Pembangkit PLTP Sarulla ini ditargetkan beroperasi komersial pada tahun 2016, unit kedua pada 2017, dan unit ketiga pada 2018.
Sebenarnya PLTP Sarulla ini sudah akan dibangun sejak 1993 sesuai dengan original ESC/JOC yang ditandatangani pada tanggal 27 Februari 1993 antara PLN, PT PGE, dan Unocal North Sumatera Geothermal Ltd (UNSG). Namun, akibat dampak krisis ekonomi pada tahun 1998, pemerintah RI sempat menghentikan proyek ini dan pada periode tahun 2000 – 2004 sempat dilakukan renegosiasi harga, namun tidak tercapai kesepakatan.

Saat ini PLTP Sarulla membuka lowongan kerja PLTP Sarulla Operation Ltd terbaru September 2015 untuk beberapa posisi dan persyaratan sebagai berikut :

1. ADMIN ASSISSTANT
Job Summary :
Responsible for providing administrative support of the department by developing and maintaining a record management system and scheduling, disseminating, and coordinating appointments and pertinent information.

2. DCS SPECIALIST
Job Summary :
Responsible for monitoring operation and condition and providing technical support for configuration and troubleshooting of the DCS and Control Equipment to ensure the efficient, proper, optimized and safe use of the DCS and control equipment for a reliable and efficient generation of electric power.

Responsible for the development of DCS spares management plan, in coordination with Maintenance to serve as guidelines in maintaining a spares inventory level using criteria based on criticality, lead time, delivery down time and market availability.

Conduct routine inspection and monitoring of DCS and peripheral equipment condition and immediately report to the superior any indication of abnormality based on the established standards set by the department.

3. E&I SUPERVISOR
Job Summary :
The Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the coordination and supervision of the DCS Specialist and EI Technicians in the maintenance of all electrical and instrumentation equipment and systems in the power plant. He takes the lead of maintenance work and improvement in the Instrumentation, DCS, PLC, Electrical Control System, Communication System (Fiber Optic/Microwave/PABX) and 150KV Substation protection system and SCADA system in the power plant.

Job Summary :
Responsible in the preparation and monitoring of the plant maintenance programs, plans and activities using the plant computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) software. He/she will lead and oversee the overall program and the monitoring and control of various maintenance needs of the power plant and steam gathering system including corrective, predictive and preventive maintenance activities. Together with the Maintenance Manager establish plans and policies for improving work efficiency, safety and training of personnel in the latest maintenance technology. He will also prepare project cost and monitor all expenses for related activities.

The Performance/Mechanical Engineer is also responsible for the development and implementation of standard procedures, and practices for plant operation and maintenance. The production of these and standards will be driven by appropriate plant performance, risk, and safety and cost criteria.

17. PLANT TECHNICIAN - STEAM FIELD
Job Summary :
Responsible for executing direct orders from the Plant Technician Shift Leader or Operations Manager to operate the Production and Reinjection System (PRS) flash plants or Separators, field equipment, steam purity monitoring system, brine pump system, production and injection wells.
It is also the responsibility of the Plant Technician – Steam Field to undertake minor preventive maintenance, to prepare maintenance job requests, assists in the preparation of safe work permits during daily operations and especially during plant shutdown. He makes sure that all other corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance conducted by maintenance and contractors are performed and satisfactorily completed per established procedures and engineering standards.

Job Summary :
Responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the entire power plant facilities and auxiliaries in accordance with standard methods and procedures established by the Department and in coordination with the shift leader, plant operations manager and site manager. The power plant operations technician also operates the high voltage equipment and other switchgears in coordination with the PLN and coordinates closely with the Shift Leader for the timely restoration of the power plant, switchyard, and transmission line during equipment or systems tripping.

The Plant Technician is also responsible for minor preventive maintenance, to prepare maintenance job requests, assists in the preparation of safe work permits during daily operations and especially during plant shutdown. He makes sure that all other corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance conducted by maintenance and contractors are performed and satisfactorily completed per the established procedures and engineering standards.

Job Summary :
The Plant Technician Shift Leader reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the plant through the application of the established standard operating procedures, policies and guidelines set forth by the company. He has complete charge of the entire plant operations during his assigned shift and unless relieved by his superior, his order will take precedence. The Shift Leader assumes responsibility of Site Manager or Operations Manager when both of them are off-site, or as designated officer during their absence, maintains good communication and close coordination with PLN Dispatch Center for load requirements.

The Pipefitter/Welder perform pipefitting, welding, and fabrication work pertaining to Power Plant mechanical maintenance and assists in Power Plant mechanical preventive and corrective maintenance works.
